Home, Away & HOME Forever!

You really have to read the information on my mom's blog to know what’s been going on. Katlan's Blog
We had Duchess Sammy home with us. We thought she had fit in perfectly. Everyone was happy and relaxed.
Then the dreaded email. Duchess was to go back to Terrace to live with her “Real mom” OMG! We went through every emotion you can imagine. We ended with “Well that’s where she belongs and she’s not really our dog. We were only a foster family.”
We lived with memories of her and she still held aplace both physically and emotionally in our hearts and home. Her food bowl remained. Her toys and favourite place, her mat remained. Our hearts ached for information about her but we knew not to ask about her.
Then it happened. Another email! Duchess was coming back to live FOREVER with us! We won’t let her go ever again. No one will ever take her from us! She is HOME Forever!

Her homecoming videos are here on my Youtube Channel and her photo album is here on mom's Photobucket site.

My Sister, Duchess Sammy is Returning HOME!

It was May 18 2011
Mom received an email saying, "I just received word today that Duchess Sammy is not working out for her mom. I have been asked to connect with you and enquire about whether or not you would like Duchess back, permanently?"

She jumped through the roof with excitement and joy! Mom rushed to the phone and called Dad. "Do you mind? Can we take her back? He was over the top! YES! Let's get her HOME NOW! That was then
Today is one week later and we're still trying to make arrangements to get that poor girl back HOME. She is in a kennel in Terrace. We are not sure how long she has been there. We only know she left our safe warm home on April 6.

We have felt her presence every day since. It was far too difficult to let her go. We were originally told she was a foster. Long term but never the less a foster. We knew at the back of our minds she may have to be returned one day to her previous owner. Why then, was it so hard to let her go?

I believe in fate. I believe she was destined to be one of our pack. Somehow fate played a cruel joke and sent her to us before the time was really suppose to happen. I believe our paths crossed before they were meant to be. It was so hard to let her go because she is MEANT TO BE with us.

Now, we wait for that time to happen. I promise you Duchess Sammy, once you are with in our grasp we will NEVER let you go again! Stay safe and warm dear girl.
You are on your way back HOME!

A Post From My Mom on My ReBirthday

I absolutely felt compelled to write a blog today. Today is Kings Rebirthday. There is always so much going on in our lives, sometimes we forget that things were not always like they are today.
Sometimes we forget that our dogs didn’t always have a soft mat to sleep on and a full tummy every night. We are however reminded daily of all the dogs that are still out there that don’t have those things. The ones that are still waiting to be found and rescued and rehabilitated and rehomed. We imagine their day is just around the corner. We hope there will be more people who are willing to stop and take the time to DO something for them. Today because of people like that I can look down at our wonderful soft eyed King as he lies so peacefully at my feet. I can’t help but smile at him.
Today I will take a few minutes of out of my busy day and pay tribute to those people who SAVED HIS LIFE!  Lou & Bonnie Baird and Dave & Yvette Labatte.
I won’t go into all the details of their rescue because I write it out every year.
You can no longer read it in these pages from This Day Past Years. Sadly Turtle Gardens blog is no longer available.

We still wonder what ever happened to the rest of The Bella Coola Four. We still hope that one day we can make contact with them. Lou & Bonnie continue to visit us regularly. They have only recently moved from Alberta and are now living on Vancouver Island. Perhaps there will be a chance for them to visit again, face to face with Yvette this summer at the Reunion. We’ll see.
Today I will serve King and his ‘todays pack’ a special meaty dinner. Oddly enough in our house this day we have four furries in our pack at the moment. Princess MollyDawg, Seven and Mia. King still reigns.
I know if King were a people, today in his heart he would cry out, Thank you Lou & Bonnie Baird and Dave & Yvette Labatte. From ALL my Packs and ALL the dogs you have ever helped to find their lives.
We owe you far more than our words can ever say.
Thank you so very much for being there.
King & his Furever Family
Mark, Del, Princess MollyDawg, Seven and Mia
Today we take a moment to think about King and all the dogs who remember what Dave and Yvette DO!
Please take a moment to read the poem that broke our hearts enough to submit the application for King. Do I go home today? Thank you for posting this Aunty Jean!

King learns how to wait for dinner

UPDATE: April 29 2011 Yvette comments on this post:

A New Big Sister

Here it is almost 3 yrs since I found my Forever Family. I'm getting along so well with my baby sister Princess Mollydawg. We really have a great bond now.  I love to play with her and she has taught me some good exercise moves. My back leg is getting much stronger and I can run after her Super fast now.
My coat has cleaned up to be smooth & silky. Mom says she remembers when I first came to live here, it was kinda coarse and unpleasant to stroke. Mom & Dad love to  rub my fur now and I get totally thousands of pats and snuggles a day.

So Im happy, healthy and content with my life.

Okay now that I've said that. Guess what? My mom and dad are fostering a New Big Sister for us!! I know! Can you belive it? Duchess is her name. She's a Rottie cross Bernese Mountain dog, so she fits right in with our family. She really is pretty and she's kinda wiggly. She doesnt know any house rules and mom says we have to be patient with her. Her mommy had to go away to a people hostipel so we are taking care of her untill she gets better.  Anyway Im still not sure how much I like her. I guess she's okay. She's REALLY Heavy though and I have to teach her not to jump up on my back end.  Molly and I do that all the time with each other and its okay cuz Molly is a lightweight.
So anyway here's a video of us playing together after Duchess was with us for 4 days. I hope you enjoy it. I'll tell mommy to add more soon.
